Dining In and Out

Many businesses have had to change direction over the last few months, especially in the hospitality industry. Jolene Ogle has discovered The Ohana Group has added more ingredients to its flavoursome pot.

We know The Ohana Group directors Ryan Fitzpatrick and Rashi Devendra as the go-to for luxurious and intimate weddings where guests marvel at the florist artistry and seamless styling by Rashi and devour the gourmet offerings from Ryan.

But, with a current slow on wedding bookings, the duo were determined to pivot their business to thrive and support their suppliers who had also been affected. Instead of closing up the kitchen, they turned up the gas and have created new culinary ventures that are sure to excite the avid foodies of Noosa and position themselves as the local food tourism experts offering one-of-a-kind food experiences as well as for wedding and event services.

True to the ‘family’ origins of the name ‘Ohana’ (Hawaiian for family), Ryan and Rashi have added some new members to the family:

The Crate Collective brings together local suppliers such as Fraser Isle Spanner Crabs, Steamed Bun Co., Ora King Salmon, Frozen Sunshine Iceblocks, Green Valley Fingerlimes and more to deliver a great crate full of carefully-curated cuisine to enjoy in your home. An inspiring recipe booklet guides you with recipe ideas however Ryan said the Collective was all about supporting local businesses who suffered a loss of trade when restaurants closed. “A lot of these premium products aren’t normally available,” he said. “So it was a chance to do something together.” More than 250 of the first crates were sold, jam-packed with local produce that has supported 15 local businesses and helped 500 employees. The next crate collection “Fantasia” has seen similar success and more will come with ideas for healthy pre-made meals and sauces, wholesale seafood, recipes, wine and art all presented in a handmade crate that can be used to grow your own herb garden. There’s even a copy of the latest IN Noosa Magazine inside! Find out more by visiting thecratecollective.com.au or following The Crate Collective on social media.

The Ohana Kitchen & Event Co servicing everything from weddings to small and large functions with a commitment to local, sustainable and personally-sourced produce. Ryan has built strong relationships with key suppliers during his time as a chef at venues such as Il Centro in Brisbane; The Press Club in Melbourne and closer-to-home at Berardos, Sails and Rickys.

Ohana Dining is a Private Chef service offering a range of experiences from share-style banquets to a romantic 10-course Degustation or afternoon sunset Canape Menu for friends, we people who have rediscovered the joys of eating and entertaining at home but still seek the fine to you – complete with a private chef, bartender, sommelier and Rashi’s impeccable styling.

Tiki’s Shack Food Truck is perfect for events, markets and festivals. The gluten free fried chicken with secret seasoning and tasty sauces with GF and vegan options as well as funky apparel, it will fast become a festival favourite.

For Rashi, it’s all about making sure their business continues to thrive no matter what comes our way in 2020.

“It’s been such a strange time but one thing that doesn’t change is our love for our family and good food,” she says. “Never has it been more important to gather with friends and family and spend quality time together.

“Already, we have been welcomed into local homes to cater for birthdays and anniversaries, to help people propose. It’s been such a wonderful experience and we’re excited to let more people know about what we can do.”

For Ryan, the new private dining menus and the creation of Tiki’s Shack has allowed him to tap into his creativity and passion for real food done well.

“By using sustainably sourced produce, we share the same passion as the producer and need to give it the same love as they do.”

Ryan says his international experience taught him that people’s idea of the perfect menu or meal is so different and varied; so creating tailored menus is essential to ensuring the evolution of The Ohana Group.

“Creating bespoke menus gives us greater freedom to do what we love and enjoy,” he says.

As restrictions start to ease and we slowly get back into the swing of life, we are discovering new ways to come together, dine out and enjoy time with loved ones. Whether you want to host a special dinner in your home, pop the question over a luxurious beach picnic or order a crate packed full of local goodies, The Ohana Group is here to bring your culinary dreams to life.
