Cosmedic Lab’s Bianca Dyda knows skin. Melanie Rosettenstein consults with the Noosaville-based expert to address a few unwanted skin nasties and seek advice on how to transform her skin from tired and dull to luminous.

At 44, I’ve reached that time in life where my skin, for better or worse, is showing undeniable signs of ageing. Not in the market for surgery or injectables, I decided to engage the experts – Bianca Dyda from Cosmedic Lab for her professional advice on how to turn back the hands of time to glowing skin.

Pre-consult, Bianca, a former-registered nurse, sent me a quick and easy online form to assess my needs. I detailed what I thought my skin type was (combination), what skin regime I currently have, what my pain points are and my big dream for my skin. On appointment day at her stunning Noosaville space, we went through the form in detail. Bianca asked me to hold the hand mirror up to my face and have a good look. I mean, a really, good look!

As I looked bravely in the mirror, we discussed what I’d filled out in her form. Initially I’d asked her to suggest a treatment that would address skin pigmentation marks, open pores around my mouth and on my chin and the tired looking skin under my eyes. After the mirror investigation, Bianca immediately put me at ease, pointing out that the pigmentation marks weren’t as bad as I was making out but that over time, pigmentation caused by sun damage eventually comes to the surface leaving dark marks.

She also suggested reducing the appearance of fine lines on my face. Even though they aren’t bothering me she did say that in a few years’ time, when they become more pronounced, they may become more of a bug bear. I wholeheartedly agreed and was all ears for Bianca’s recommendations. After thoughtfully taking it all in, Bianca suggested her Bibella treatment, a double rejuvenation treatment for skin that needs tightening and resurfacing. This treatment holistically treats skin that has fine lines, is lacking bounce, and has scars and uneven pigmentation. I was the perfect candidate! The Bibella treatment incorporates two elements: first is the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy which is ideal for those with fairer skin.

“IPL therapy is an excellent option for skin pigmentation as it targets and clears pigment spots, helping to restore a smooth, creamy complexion,” Bianca explains. “It’s normal for sunspots to darken initially, resembling tiny granules on the skin. This is actually a positive sign, as these spots will gradually rise to the surface and shed naturally over the following weeks.”

Bianca advises not to pick at these spots but to rather let them fall off on their own for best results. Second in her Bibella skin rejuvenation arsenal is the Nano Fractional Radio Frequency technology that delivers energy to the skin’s surface to stimulate fibroblasts and build collagen.

“This treatment creates tiny micro-wounds on the skin’s surface, like skin needling,” she explains. “Your skin sees these micro-wounds as areas that need healing, leading to the production of new collagen – often referred to as ‘baby collagen.”

After assuring me it was pain-free, Bianca added that this process was essential for anti-ageing because our natural collagen production starts to decline in our early 20s. She also suggested this treatment because it’s excellent for resurfacing pores, which was one of my main concerns.

“Plus, it can also target fine lines and wrinkles, especially under the eyes, offering great preventive benefits and impressive results,” she said.

Honestly, she had me at ‘baby collagen’, but the skin expert had more to offer from her bag of tricks. She advised me that after the Bibella treatments there would be initial swelling and redness for one to three days and my skin would have an invisible but rough texture to the touch for about a week. She added that the roughness would easily slough off leaving soft, beautifully rejuvenated skin in its wake. After recommending two-to-three sessions of the Bibella treatment incorporating the IPL and Radio Frequency elements, Bianca said we’d finish off with the world-famous HydraFacial.

“This treatment uses advanced technology to dissolve and suck out any skin impurities leaving it exfoliated, hydrated and super clean. There’s no better feeling than after a HydraFacial,” exclaims Bianca.

And just when I thought Bianca was done with her proposal for my skin revitalisation, she suggested I level up my home skincare regime with an A-Zinc Kit from Synergie Skin Clean Science. This handy pack is ideal for all skin types and contains three essential topical vitamins (A, B and C), a gentle pH balanced cleanser, and a daily broad-spectrum UV protective moisturiser fortified with zinc oxide.

“Synergie supplies cosmeceutical-grade products that helps even out skin-tone, brighten skin pigmentation and provide antioxidant protection,” she said. “Vitamin A and B prevents further pigmentation by suppressing melanin production, and Uber Zinc acts as a natural anti-inflammatory.”

With my three-month treatment plan of one treatment per month agreed upon, Bianca explained how her easy, set-and-forget membership program where I pay weekly bite-size instalments would make my plan manageable. Watch this space as we rewind the years and help my skin reach tip top condition. With my treatment plan and new home skincare routine locked in, so begins my skin-spiring journey to luminous skin! I can’t wait to share the results in our next edition – watch this space and this face!
