The sustainable living movement is flourishing in our region! Melanie Rosettenstein discovers what’s on offer at Peregian Beach’s upcoming EARTH Sustainable Living Expo.

They are the masterminds behind more than 220 events and markets that take place in the Sunshine Coast and Noosa every year and now, Cartel Music and Events, in conjunction with the Peregian Beach Business Association (PBBA), is bringing another not-to-be-missed event to our favourite seaside village, the EARTH Sustainable Living Expo at The Village, Peregian Beach.

Sustainable living is fast becoming the foundation on which the socially conscious and environmentally aware build their homes, lives, and businesses. It’s a lifestyle choice where people are reducing their reliance on the earth’s natural resources by altering how they live, eat, move around, and more. Cartel Music and Events Director Lea Bye said sustainable living was growing in importance to residents in the Noosa and Sunshine Coast region, driven by a strong emphasis on eco-living and a heightened environmental awareness.

“It’s great to see our community making conscious choices about having a lighter impact on the environment,” she said. “Many people are already making small changes, such as using keep cups for takeaway coffee and living a plastic-free life – now it’s time to take the next steps, which is what the EARTH Sustainable Living Expo is all about.”

Taking place in The Village, Peregian Beach and celebrating Plastic Free July, the expo and events will run from Thursday 4 July to Sunday 7 July. PBBA President Kylie Plunkett said that as a central point between Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, and with a rich history of pioneering eco-friendly initiatives and events that celebrated sustainable living, Peregian Beach was the ideal location for an event such as this.

“We’re excited about hosting this event with its focus on people and the planet,” she said.

Those in the know and those who want to know more about sustainable living will be spoilt with a busy lineup of intriguing, family-friendly, interactive events and hands-on activities. Kicking off on Thursday 4 July, the Expo’s Slow Food and Fashion event will feature delicious and stylish wares from Peregian Beach Village Square’s local retailers and restaurants.

Day two will begin with the EARTH Green Business Breakfast, featuring a mind-blowing glass-blowing display, and for the fashionistas who love a bit of pre-loved clothing, there will be a Sustainable Swap and Sip clothing swap from 6pm to 8pm.

Peregian Park will be the bright and breezy location for Saturday’s Eco Village with yoga classes, educational talks, a denim upcycling workshop, art displays, bush tucker tour and more. Wine enthusiasts can indulge in an Eco Paint and Sip, while foodies can tuck into the delectable offerings from the various vegan and vegetarian stalls. Don’t miss the 6pm film in the park!

On Sunday 7 July, the Peregian Beach Markets, well known for its variety of homegrown, handmade and upcycled goodies will be back with a host of workshops – and special celebrations for its 35th anniversary!

“Our region is already a shining example of sustainable living, with a community that’s passionate about conservation efforts and care for natural habitats,” Lea said.

“We look forward to seeing everyone at the EARTH Sustainable Living Expo to build on this fantastic foundation for a brighter future.”
